Name: Jake Edward Sharp.
Age: 31
Location: Coffs Harbour NSW.
Home Break: Gallows, Diggers, anywhere offshore and hollow.
Years DK: Been in the saltwater since I was a little tacker but DK’ing on and off for about 10 – 12 years. Mucked around with prone for a while but never really got into it. Still love to scoop on the odd sucky one.
Natural/Goofy: Goofy. The only way to be.
Why DK: Love to surf as well but there’s just something about the jack stance that appeals to me. Can’t put my finger on it but I’m sure all the lads out there getting up know what I mean.
Favourite DK Riders: Roach, Aka, Dubb, Maligro and all the DKS crew. It’s just as much about the passion as it is the performance.
Favourite DK Movie/Section: Anything with Roach. Like seeing unknown riders in vids ripping but unless you have a name or sponsors you don’t see much of that.
Prefer Fronthand or Backhand: Love backhand and forehand equally. One without the other would be boring. Gotta mix it up.
Favourite DK Move: Anything off the end section. I love a nice cutty where you come out of the white water with heaps of speed and rip straight into another move, but I also enjoy an end section to float or bash.
Future For DK (eg-moves,direction): Riding that is stylish, powerful and fluid. You do need the waves to achieve this but you can still make small stuff functional. Airs and projected moves off end sectionals are also very progressive moves and something I’m trying to incorporate into my repertoire.
DK Rippers At Your Local: Surfing alot with a mate of mine Sheldon Gow. Versatile rider who loves the knee. Pulling the Go-pro out lately and has a few nice frame grabs. Tend to surf by myself a little bit as I can’t stand lads that lag or don’t surf because it’s not perfect. Guys like Red dog, Handsford, Hulbert, Jacka and a few grommies are generally the boys representing.
Shout Outs: Shout out to all the DKS crew and anyone DK’ing for the love of it because that’s what it’s all about.
A Few Words With Jake
I love the ocean and since I married my darling wife Natalie and built a house in town ( i used to live in Coramba which is a country town about 20min from the coast ) I have loved being able to cruise to the beach in a few minutes or travel a little way south with mates and score awesome uncrowded waves. I’ve had a few injuries with my back in the last year so I’m working hard to rectify that. Started a new job with the Commonwealth bank about 6 months ago and things are great. It’s still work and 9 to 5 can be a drag, but I don’t work weekends or public holidays ( love those bank holidays! ) so that’s sweet. Overall, life is pretty good for me and I always look forward to this time of year where I can catch up with mates, get some waves, drink some beers, talk some shit and surf in a really well run dropknee comp. How sweet it is!!!!!
