Why DK: Why not?! DK gives you such a broader canvas to work with on a lid. Those average 2ft days would be so frustrating stuck on the gut. Also, I guess growing up around a lot of stand-ups, DK’s always given me a point of difference, more mana,…. or something!
Favourite DK riders: The god-father-Paul Roach. Enough said! On a local level, I don’t get to surf with many other dropkneers. J Fez is my nemesis and he definitely deserves all the accolades-surf’s fast and is comfortable in the barral. Reuben Quirk does it all with a nice fluid style. I’ve had some great duels with Joan Killkelly over the years. Across oceans I love watching Dubb and Mason for style, Kim Feast for the way he tackles big pits and Lackey for making backside look functional in hollow waves. Oh, and who’s that Hawaiian who busts legitimate air revies on the knee?!- he kills it!
Favourite DK Movie/Section: Any of Roach’s old sections on No Friends.
Prefer Fronthand/Backhand: Forehand. I’m a kook on my backside-especially in hollow waves.
Favourite DK move: Nothing beats surfing fast and whacking the shit out of a section. Anything that isn’t forced-there’s some ugly DK out there! I’d love to be able to do air revies on the knee, but my days are numbered!
DK Rippers At Your Local: No real DK rippers at my local. Richard McKenna smashed a section to bits in front of me once-but I’m pretty sure it was a fluke. Duncan Smith is aight, just give up those damn dk to prone rolls kid!
